OK: Green Country Winnies

Green Country Winnies September/October/November/December 2021

Before I review the outings since my last newsletter, we must acknowledge the passing of Henry Stone on October 22nd. Henry was a very special friend to all of us. He served our chapter and club for many, many years in so many positions. He was president of Okiebagos for two years in 1990-1992. He was chaplain of both Green Country and Okiebagos for many years. We were blessed to know him. Please keep Orlene and their family in your prayers.

Our September outing was at Robbers Cave State Park close to Wilburton, Oklahoma. Those in attendance were Bill Baldwin, Darrell & Connie Carver, Jesse & Carol McCoy, Jerry & Wanda Standridge and Ken & Donna Zwiegel. It was a relaxing outing. We enjoyed sitting around the campfire and visiting. Some of us did hike to the actual Robbers Cave where outlaws used to hide from the lawmen. It is pretty interesting but not some place where I’d like to hide for very long. Wilburton is a nice small town with a good farmers market. Their watermelon was delicious!

Our October outing was at the Oklahoma City East KOA in Choctaw, Oklahoma. The primary purpose was to have a reunion with anybody who has ever been a member of Sooner Schooners, Green Country Winnies or Okiebagos. We only had three coaches camping but we had a fabulous turnout with 24 people attending our luncheon. Those who attended the luncheon were Bob Adamson, Jasper Biddy, Darrell & Connie Carver, Alice Combs, Reatha Hill, Fred & Janet Long, Gene & Delores Parnell, Arno Pautsch, Larry & Thelma Theriot, Mary Ann Turley, Howard & Ann Victery, Joe & Sue Wall, Chuck & Jean Wilson, Fred & Freda Zacher, Ken & Donna Zwiegel. It was so much fun to sit and talk with all our wonderful friends and catch up on what is happening in their lives. It had been too long since we were all together. So, we have decided to have a reunion in the OKC area and another reunion in the Tulsa area every year. Our reunion luncheon for the Tulsa area will be March 19th at Café USA in Sapulpa. The next reunion in the OKC area will be August 17th at the same rv park where we were this year (Oklahoma City East KOA in Choctaw). Everybody is invited to come to both reunions.

Our Thanksgiving outing at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation’s RV Park in Shawnee was much smaller than previous Thanksgiving outings so we went to Cracker Barrel for our big meal. Of course, we went to several other restaurants for other meals. The majority of our time was spent talking, playing cards and relaxing in the room and sitting outside our coaches. Several of us went bowling one afternoon. Another afternoon several went to a gun range.

Our December luncheon was December 11th at Freddies Steakhouse in Sapulpa. Gene & Delores Parnell were our hosts. We did not make a list of who attended but it was a good turnout. We also had three guests attend. Rod & Ginger Cleavelin had contacted us a few months ago and was interested in meeting the group. This was the first time their schedule and ours aligned. Connie Carver met Robbie Duldine a few days before our luncheon. While they were talking Robbie expressed an interest in our group so Connie invited her to our luncheon to meet everybody. Before they left Rod & Ginger and Robbie joined our chapter. Welcome Rod, Ginger and Robbie. We hope you enjoy being members of our Green Country Winnies.
