Chardonnay Travelers

collage of photos with people playing games and socializing.

This last Chardonnay outing turned out bigger and better than expected.  It was anticipated that our attendance was going to be on the low side due to the Covid resurgence and smoke from the Sierra fires.  Instead, the outing turned out to be a good size with 9 rigs (16 attendees) and with very little smoke to slow things down.  Also the park gave us full use of their nice-sized clubhouse which made everything go quite smoothly.  “So, on we went!”

Thursday (26) was the normal arrival and check-in day.  In the afternoon some brave attendees sat outside in front of one of the Host’s rigs in the shade and visited with each other.  That night we started with “Fellowship in the Clubhouse” and then on to a potluck of “heavy hors d’oeuvres.”  Dessert was provided by the Hosts, Carol’s Apple Crisp & Ice Cream.  Can’t beat that for the start of a nice weekend!

Friday (27) started out with free-time to explore the area.  The Co-Hosts(Scott & Carol Kenyon, and Fred & Gay Bryner) provided “goodie-bags” with information about places to explore, wineries to visit & restaurants to try.  In the afternoon, due to it being quite warm outside, the “Corn Hole Tournament” was moved inside of the clubhouse for a rollicking game of corn hole.  There ended up being 4 teams (Milt W. & Bob J.; Johnny Z. & Debbie Z.;  Mike P. & Scott K.;  Fred B. & Gay B.).  The competition was friendly and at the end Milt and Bob were the champions!  Later, the group carpooled over to the Old City Hall Restaurant in down-town Gilroy for dinner.  We were able to sit outside on the patio for dinner since the weather decided to be comfortably pleasant.  Everyone enjoyed their meals and the company was great!

Saturday (28) started out with the Club Meeting lead by President, Fred Bryne., at 10:00am.  Then, just after lunch, the ladies got together for a craft class in the clubhouse taught by, Carol Kenyon.  Since many of our members are avid quilters, Carol  felt that the activity of making a “5-minute Pot Holder” would go well. She was sure that it was simple enough for even the non-quilters present.  The pot holders turned out to be quite simple, after the first one with lots of help from Carol.  Carol prepared the fabric kits ahead of time, and provided a couple of her own sewing machines, and lots of expert help.  It was really great fun!  Thanks Carol!  The dinner hour began with”Fellowship in the Clubhouse”.  BBQ’d tri-tip was expertly prepared by Host, Scott Kenyon & his two jolly assistants, Fred B. & Mike P.  The pot-luck side-dishes were prepared by the attendees.  Dessert of a “Dump-Cake” and a “Buckle” was provided by Co-Host, Gay B.  After dinner we played Triominoes, with prizes awarded for the winners!  (Triominoes: Johnny Z. & Carol W., and Cribbage: Debbie Z.)  Congratulations!

Sunday (29) morning started with a hot breakfast, a “Slow Cooker Overnight Breakfast Casserole” and zucchini & banana breads prepared by the Hosts, and fruit salads prepared by members. After breakfast everyone prepared to depart and started on their way home.

This outing turned out to be a busy event!  The smoke and heat didn’t stop the Chardonnay Travelers!  If you are interested in joining us at one of our future outings please feel free to check in on our Chardonnay Travelers Website (https://chardonnaytravelers.com).  If you would like to join us anytime this year please contact Fred Bryner, President, at [email protected]. Hope to see you soon!

Respectfully Submitted. Gayle Bryner
