Central Florida RV Travel and Adventures Hit List
Nature gems, heart-filled moments, and playful detours.

By: Morgan Field

I’m Morgan Field—van lifer, storyteller, and seeker of the places that make you breathe a little deeper. I travel Florida in my 2019 Travato 59K with my fluffy co-adventurer Teddy, always on the hunt for those “you have to see this” moments that remind you why you hit the road in the first place.

If you’re traveling through Central Florida in your RV—or you’re a local RVer looking to play tourist in your own backyard—this region is an adventure playground. Between springs that look like a painting, majestic sunsets, quirky stops, and oceanside campgrounds, Central Florida offers some of the most unexpectedly magical experiences you can have on the road.

Below is a curated list of places to camp, explore, wander, and soak up the magic—plus a few “driveable adventures” perfect for campervans or tow vehicles.

Springs: Florida’s Magical Water Escapes

Central Florida is home to some of the most enchanting springs, each offering its own unique vibe and unforgettable experiences. Here are a few fan favorites to dip into:

  • Devil’s Den, in Williston, FL, gives you the unique experience of a true cenote. With crystal-clear waters, dramatic rock formations, and an almost otherworldly atmosphere—every scuba dive or snorkel feels like a secret adventure.
  • At Weeki Wachee, in Spring Hill, FL, you can witness the legendary mermaid shows that have delighted visitors for decades—a whimsical blend of performance, tradition, and pure Florida charm. You can also indulge in the Buccaneer Bay Waterpark—Florida’s only spring-fed waterpark, with lazy river and water slides.
  • Blue Springs, in Orange City, FL, offers serene paddling by day, and if you time your visit right, fireflies put on a dazzling light show at night. Make sure to check their site for their Know Before You Go notices. During Manatee season in mid-November through March, they close the spring from water activities so the manatees have a safe space to winter. There are viewing stations where you can hang out and watch the manatees from above.
  • Silver Springs, in Silver Springs, FL, adds a playful twist to the magic: kayaking or glass-bottom boat rides may include curious monkeys. Legend has it a tourist company brought monkeys to a nearby island to create a jungle-cruise experience without realizing they could swim. The clever primates swam away, establishing a home among the springs. Today, they add charm and surprise to the already enchanting waterways.
  • Rainbow Springs, in Dunnellon, FL, feels like a watercolor painting—blues, greens, gentle breezes, and that Florida magic no camera truly captures. Bring a pool noodle to float in the spring head, or rent a kayak to glide through some of the clearest, most peaceful water you’ll ever see. A grassy hill provides a perfect spot for lounging and enjoying a picnic.

Most springs offer both day-use access and nearby camping, with options for swimming, kayaking, tubing, and hiking. For the best experience, visit on a weekday, arrive early, and reserve ahead when possible—these parks often hit capacity during peak seasons and close their gates once full.

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Park in Flagler Beach, FL

Gamble Rogers State Park is a true gem for RV travelers seeking an oceanside escape. From your ocean-side site, you can hear the waves crashing, stroll to the dog-friendly beach just outside the campground, or use the private dune walkovers to step directly onto the sand. The peaceful setting makes it perfect for soaking up the sun and enjoying the natural beauty all around.

If the oceanfront sites are full, the park also offers riverside sites, many of which still provide easy walking access to the beach. So even if you can’t snag a beachfront spot, you can still enjoy the ocean. This popular spot often books well in advance, so it’s worth checking daily for cancellations and grabbing a site as soon as one opens up. Weekdays and off-peak seasons offer a quieter, more relaxed vibe, but the scenery is stunning no matter when you visit.

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground

Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort may just be the happiest campground on Earth. It is a whimsical escape for RV travelers seeking magic, fun, and endless activities without ever entering the theme parks. There’s no shortage of activities: heated pools (with a waterslide), a dog park, bike and kayak rentals, archery, horseback or carriage rides, and evening entertainment including campfire singalongs, outdoor movies, and the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue dinner and show. Seasonal events bring extra magic—golf cart parades, themed fireworks, Halloween trick-or-treating, and Christmas stocking surprises make the campground feel alive with festive spirit.

Insider tips: bring a bike or rent a golf cart to navigate the sprawling grounds, check the daily schedule for activities, and visit on weekdays or off-peak seasons for a quieter experience. Even without park tickets, Fort Wilderness delivers unforgettable adventures—for me and Teddy, that means campfire s’mores, the Hokey Pokey, and core memories that keep us coming back.

The Ocala Drive-In for A Retro Night Under the Stars

When a Harvest Hosts location offers a place to stay and a unique and cool experience, that’s my jam! There’s something nostalgic and grounding about watching a double-feature from the comfort of your RV. The Ocala Drive-In gives you two movies for the price of one, a quirky old-Florida vibe, and an overnight stay when you book through Harvest Hosts—overnight parking and movies means an instant win. Grab snacks, set up some cozy lights, and settle in for a simple joy kind of night. (Note: This is more geared towards the self-sustaining rigs, as there are no comfort stations or hookups.)

The Canyons Zip Line & Adventure Park in Ocala, FL

If you have a Class B, or leave your rig parked and explore with a drivable vehicle, The Canyons Zip Line and Adventure Park is an incredible day-trip destination. The park offers ziplining, rope bridges, and claims some of Florida’s longest, highest, and fastest zips—with unbeatable views over tree lines, the sparkling canyon’s lakes and waters, and rugged terrain. Beyond the ziplines, you can enjoy horseback riding across lakes, cliffs, and wooded trails, soaking in a real Old Florida vibe. It’s the kind of adventure that fills a whole day and leaves you with brand-new core memories.

Santos Trailhead and Campground in Ocala, FL

Whether you’re into camping, biking, hiking, or simply seeking a trail to wander in peace, Santos Trailhead and Campground delivers. There’s a calm that settles over you the moment you’re on the path. You might even see some horses trail riding or galloping on a parallel path. And for those traveling with dogs—Teddy’s personal review: 10/10 sniffies and fetch sessions in the open field near the larger parking area.

Bonus: If you have a smaller RV, there is an incredible bike shop across the street that is a participating Harvest Hosts location: Santos Bike Shop

Vollama Acres Llama Farm in Micanopy, FL

If your kind of adventure includes llamas, alpacas, a show-stealing donkey, and a peaceful country setting that melts stress right off your shoulders, go ahead and bookmark Vollama Acres. This Harvest Hosts delivers a unique, heart-warming farm experience—the good kind of unexpected that makes RV travel feel downright magical.

One of my favorite things about Harvest Hosts is getting to support small businesses while picking up souvenirs I genuinely love. At Vollama Acres, you can camp on the property, enjoy a tour, meet and feed the animals, and then pop into their back-porch shop for treasures like alpaca socks. I have a pair—and yes, they’re just as cozy as you’d imagine.

World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Ocala, FL

If you’re a horse lover, Ocala is the place to be. Known as the Horse Capital of the World, it’s home to the World Equestrian Center—an expansive, picturesque campus that truly feels like its own little universe. And now, with their new RV park, you can stay right in the center of the magic.

Spend your day wandering the grounds, enjoying incredible food, and soaking in the energy of elite equestrian sport. Depending on when you visit, you might catch everything from jumpers and dressage to barrel racing and specialty events.

For the ultimate experience, check WEC’s event calendar before you book your stay and plan your trip around a show or competition that excites you. It’s a one-of-a-kind treat for equine enthusiasts and a memorable stop for anyone who appreciates beauty, artistry, and the world of horses.

P.S. The surrounding area—Ocala, Williston, Dunnellon, Fort McCoy, and beyond—is full of stunning horse farm RV camping options on Hipcamp. If you’ve ever dreamed of waking up in an open field, surrounded by peaceful pastures and a sky full of stars, camping with these majestic beings is pure magic.

Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin, FL

If you don’t mind driving a bit further South, Honeymoon Island State Park is a sun-soaked escape with a gorgeous causeway where you can park, kick back, and soak in the endless water views. The calm waters make it perfect for kayaking or paddleboarding, while the surrounding area invites exploration.

Just a short drive away, the charming town of Dunedin offers a delightful mix of local shops, restaurants, and dog-friendly spots. Bike ride along scenic streets, stroll the waterfront, or pop into a café for a bite—it’s a small town full of personality and adventure, perfect for pairing with a day at the beach.

Whether You’re Taking Your First RV Trip to Florida or Are a Local…

This region offers endless places to explore, unwind, and rediscover delight. From adventure parks to springs, from oceanside mornings to horse-country sunsets, Central Florida is a playground for wanderers who love both peace and play.
