MO: Chief Winnies

Our time in the Valley is coming to a close. We’ll be heading back home in a few days and hoping for good weather on the way. Last year we made the normally three-day drive in just two because of a snowstorm that was headed our way. We’ve really enjoyed being in Texas the last two months. At one time there were seven coaches from the Chief Winnies here in the RGV. We also had some Chief friends who were
passing through on their own adventures and stopped to visit for a few days. What a great group! I noticed that Daylight Savings Time starts on March 8th this year. That’s always an indication to me that spring and camping weekends are not far behind. Chris and I are looking forward to both.

We visited the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park several times during our stay here. It’s the headquarters for the National Bird Center and we’re lucky enough to be staying right across the street from it. If you’re ever in the area, I recommend riding your bike or taking the tram through this terrific resource. If you visit early morning, you might see several tropical birds such as Green Jays, Altamira Orioles, Chachalacas, and Kiskadees that have made their way into southern Texas.

Wow, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl! What an incredible nail-biter of a game! Patrick Mahomes is a phenomenon! I heard the fireworks in KC were louder than the 4th of July the night they won. Congratulations to the Chiefs and all of Chiefs’ Kingdom!

Dan and Peggy Sego are hosting the March luncheon on Saturday, the 14th, at Pizza Ranch in Liberty, Missouri. Please let them know if you’ll be attending. Also, our shakeout campout is at the Jacomo Campground in Lee’s Summit, MO. The dates are April 17-19, so please make your reservations as soon as possible if you haven’t already done so. Nancy and Kelly Collings are co-hosting this one along with Gene Sturner. We’ll find out more about their plans at our March luncheon. We’ll also
discuss our summer caravan to Michigan and the Balloon Fest in Indianola, Iowa at that time.

Help Wanted - We are still needing a club secretary and newsletter editor to
replace Nancy Colley. She’s graciously agreed to continue this work until she and
Mike sell their coach, which could happen at any time. Please consider one or the
other, or both, of these very important positions in our club.

We hope to see everyone at the luncheon in a few weeks. Stay warm and safe
travels!

President
