IN: Indiana Meanderers

This year’s September outing was held September 9-12 at the Shipshewana South Park Campground in Shipshewana, Indiana. Glen and Janet Gish were the hosts for the outing and they could not have arranged for more perfect weather. It was sunny, dry, and warm during the day, cool at night … absolutely beautiful fall weather! There were 16 people at the rally in 9 coaches including our newest members Wrede and Kathy Banta, Ron & Peggy Campbell, Glen & Janet Gish, Ron & Tammy Kline, John Lucas, Dorothy Michalak, Gene & Kathy Rieck, Bob & Ruth Stoeckley, and Fred & Carol Thomas. Saturday we had some visitors arrive just in time for “Crafts with Tammy”.

Dick and Becky Dirig surprised us shortly after Lori Tindall came for the day. Kathy Banta and her husband Wrede came to the outing and we evidently didn’t scare them off because they became our latest new members. Welcome Bantas! Everyone arrived on Thursday except for Dorothy (delays in her kitchen work postponed her arrival until Friday) and we all enjoyed the nice weather visiting until dinner time. Janet had made a delicious meal of Sloppy Joes, mac and cheese, chips, Jell-O cubes, and Texas Sheet Cake. After stuffing ourselves we had the state and local meetings. Your officers for the Meanderers for the upcoming year are Ron Kline – President, Janet Gish – Vice President, and Carol Thomas – Secretary/Treasurer. Thanks to all of the officers past and present for helping to make our club a great one!

Group gathered at tables under a campground pavilion.

Friday morning we met at the pavilion for some yummy muffins that John Lucas had brought. We visited there until time for crafts and the arrival of Lori, Dick, and Becky. Then Tammy brought out some craft kits for us to work on and we painted and talked and had a lot of fun. I had no idea it was possible to have as much fun as we do for only $1.00. The remainder of the day people either visited or wandered Amish country shopping and eating. We all went into the Bluegate Restaurant for dinner which was unusually busy due to shows in town but after waiting a bit we all managed to get seated. Most of us had the buffet and I know I definitely got my money’s worth!

Saturday there were more shopping trips to Shipshewana and some of us made it to the Middlebury Fall Festival where we ate junk food and shopped. We had a pitch-in dinner at the pavilion that evening and there were games and a campfire. We had campfires every night maintained by Glen, Ron, and Tammy. Saturday night about 10:00 we were even served some Texas Sheet Cake and Jell-O cubes at the campfire. We just love these wagon masters that spoil us!

Sunday morning we met for our goodbye breakfast made by Janet. Delicious pumpkin bread and zucchini bread served with butter and bananas. I took extra and made it my Sunday lunch! Fun way to end the great outing and hopefully everyone had safe travels to home.
