CA: Chardonnay Travelers

The Chardonnay Travelers started off 2023 with it's first outing at the Golden Village Palms RV Resort in Hemet, CA. This outing happened to also be the CalWIT State Meeting. Though it was a bit colder than normal, the weather was clear and sunny most of the time. The week went by smoothly and everyone seemed to have a great time.

Wednesday, Day 1: Scheduled as check-in and orientation. A Welcome Meeting for “First Timers” was presented by Past President, Sue Chambers in the late afternoon. That evening there was a Social Hour and a Pizza Party sponsored by the CalWIT State Club officers.

 

 

Thursday, Day 2: Started off early that morning with the WIT Walkers getting their exercise by walking the perimeter of the park. Then, everyone participated in the Bean Bag Baseball Tournament, organized by the CalWIT Vice President, Fred Bryner. Later in the day, Bruce Browne, CalWIT President, conducted an RV Maintenance “Questions-and-Answers” Seminar. Before dinner, the Golden Village Palms Resort Guest Services Team provided a Welcome Reception featuring local wines. They introduced themselves and explained their park’s services and amenities. Dinner that night was a catered chicken meal. After dinner, the winners of the Bean Bag Baseball Tournament were presented money awards -- First Place Winners were the “San Diego Rolling Homes #2 + Two First Timers” & Second Place Winners were the “Chardonnay Travelers”. Congratulations to all! After that, some stayed to play Card Bingo, run by VP, Fred Bryner. Winners were pleasantly rewarded at each round with money prizes for BINGOS. Fun!

 

 

Friday, Day 3: The morning was a very busy with an “Executive Board Meeting including Chapter Reps” and later a seminar presented by “Keith Shomaker from Redlands Truck and RV”. In the afternoon, a “Shuffleboard Tournament” at the Golden Village Palms Shuffleboard Center was organized by VP, Fred Bryner. Playing Shuffleboard in a facility like that proved to be quite a challenge!

 

 

Later that afternoon, “Chapter Meetings” were held. Social Hour and Dinner was a Mexican-Style catered meal. After Dinner, the winners from the Shuffleboard Tournament were awarded prizes. Many stayed to play “Left-Right-Center” in the Clubhouse meeting room. Great Fun!

 

 

Saturday, Day 4: Started off with a “General Meeting” to discuss CalWIT future plans, State Meetings, etc. President, Bruce Browne discussed plans for the next State Meeting which will be held in October 11-15, 2023 at the Sun Outdoors Central Coast Wine Country RV Park in Paso Robles. Information and registration forms will be posted on the CalWIT website in the near future. After the meeting, a “Show and Share” event took place in the clubhouse where members displayed quilts, knitting, textile and crafts projects made by CalWIT members. There were really nice items! Thank you everyone for sharing – especially Carol K. & Sandy S. In the afternoon a presentation by the “Pampered Chef Representative, Kathryn Ethridge”, took place. Dinner was a Bar-B-Q meal catered by a local caterer. After dinner, the winner of the “50/50 drawing” and the “Poker Run drawing” was announced. Chardonnay Traveler member, Gayle Bryner, was the “Poker Run Drawing winner”! That evening, the GVP RV Park presented a Comedy Show in their main ballroom featuring an entertaining young comedian, Jason Love!

 

Sunday, Day 5: Marked the end of the CalWIT State Meeting. Everyone packed up and started home after a fun event. Thanks to the CalWIT Board and the others that helped. Some of the Chardonnay Travelers traveled West to Redlands RV to have work done on their rigs, some were lucky enough to go visit friends near-by and others started on home.
