TN: West Tennessee Travelers
David Crockett State Park
November 18-20, 2019
The West Tennessee Travelers held their November campout at David Crockett State Park, Lawrenceburg, TN. Four coaches arrived early to enjoy the fall weather. Most of the leaves had fallen so it was easier to notice the deer and wild turkey traveling through the campgrounds. Sunday was a little on the chilly side with promises of a little warmer during the week. The fifth coach arrived on Monday so we gathered around the Dixons campsite for our traditional catching up session since last month. Tuesday was grill your favorite meat day with pot luck fixings. We had a great variety of vegetables. Of course, Pat’s dessert topped off a superb meal. Our grilling seemed to have attracted a campground feline visitor. Mike and Mark took turns feeding him/her so it hung around for the rest of the evening.
For Wednesday’s entertainment we had lunch at Crockett Mills (the park restaurant) and visited the local attractions. One of these was a bird sanctuary with several owls and a red tailed hawk. One specimen was not identified but looked vaguely familiar. We next traveled to an Amish community in nearby Etheridge. We spent the early afternoon shopping at a general store featuring a variety of amish products. There was one building full of hand-made furniture. It was probably fortunate that no one had a truck or more than one cedar rocker or glider may have made its way home. The evening was spent doing what we do best – sitting around Mark’s campfire solving the worlds’ problems. The days were clear and sunny with pleasant temperatures during the day though a little chilly at night. Of course, Thursday arrived all too soon so we had to return to civilization.
We are looking forward to our Christmas luncheon. Hope to see all of you there.
