News from WIT Club Reps: Stewart & Tammy Smith

Happy Fall Y’all!

Wow, hard to believe it’s November and this is our last article for the WIT Club News as the Eastern Area Reps.  However, this isn’t really “goodbye”, as we will to continue to be part of the Winnebago family and see many of you at events in the future.  In the meantime, before all the “see ya later” stuff, thought we’d check-in and keep you posted in on what we’ve been up to over the last month and a half or so.  At the end of our last “check-in”, we had just wrapped things up at the Hershey RV Show.

From Hershey, we traveled south to the Virginia State Rally in Virginia Beach.  98 rigs came together from 12 states for a fun filled “Beach Blanket Bago” themed event.  The weather was perfect for a rally and to explore the area; highlights included a weekend airshow that featured the Air Force “Thunderbirds” and of course the beaches.  The festivities kept on rollin’ with fantastic live music, great food, lawn games, new RVs to tour and more!  There was a nice variety of vendors, so many that their tents looked like a carnival (kettle corn anyone?).  It was wonderful to see so many first-timers, as well as folks from several different states. The rally team did a terrific job and everyone had a blast!

Then we traveled up the eastern shore to meet up with the Delmarva and Chesapeake Winnies for their campout at Massey’s Landing.  The weekend weather was warm and sunny, which was great for lively rounds of beanbag baseball, along with their annual crab feast!  It was nice to have new members join in the fun for this outing, as well as WIT members from Georgia.  Congratulations to the Delmarva Winnies on their 25th birthday!

After that, we headed to Pennsylvania to join the Delaware Valley Winnies for their campout at Whispering Pines in Stillwater.  We landed there a day early to hike the trails at Rickets Glen State Park and see all the beautiful waterfalls (that’s where this article photo was taken).  Then the outing kicked off with an afternoon happy hour and coach “open house”. The hosts did a great job on a special Italian Night which included good food, decorations, music and even wearing of the “babushka”!  Folks ventured out to explore area antique shops, craft festivals and Bill’s Old Bike Barn.  A game night and toasty campfire rounded out the weekend fun!

Next up, we were southbound to get together with the Georgia Winnie Rebels for their outing in the North Carolina mountains (Murphy).  It was great to have the Central Area Reps (Butch & Val Peters) join in for this campout.  They were working their way to the Tennessee State Rally. This fall weekend campout was perfect for chili, campfires and cornhole (oh and of course college football). One day the group enjoyed an outing to "Fields of the Wood", which is a very special spiritual place (with lots and lots of steps).  Saturday night everyone gathered around the campfire and played “RV Stars”, it was fun to guess whose childhood photo was who. Lynnie Pearl made an appearance one evening and enlightened us all with her "southern humor & wisdom".  We laughed ‘til we cried; a good time was had by all!

For our final event of the season, we headed west to the Texas W State Rally in Mineola.  56 rigs came together from 8 states for lots of "Fabulous Fifties Fun".  Pre-rally activities kicked off with a trip to check out the unique Waldo Way Dairy, where the cows milk themselves.  That was followed by a lady’s afternoon of “Sip and Shop” in downtown Mineola.   Saturday evening the guys slicked their hair back, while the gals wore their poodle skirts and danced the night away to 50’s tunes provided by "Shake, Rattle & Roll".  They were fantastic!  One afternoon many rally guests participated in an RV Disaster Corps service project, where 100 emergency disaster buckets were packed up and ready to go. That was awesome! There were games and contests galore, along with cool prizes, great food and wonderful fellowship. Fun times!

From Texas, we traveled to Forest City, Iowa to get things wrapped up for the end of the season.   It’s always nice to be in Forest City to spend time with our “home team” co-workers.  We have thoroughly enjoyed working with each of them over the past four years, they Rock!  We will miss them terribly, but are excited that “the band” will be back together for next year’s 51st GNR!  We hope to see you there too.

It has truly been an honor and a blessing to serve as your WIT Club Eastern Area Reps over the past four years.  We are grateful for the opportunities we've had to spent time with, work with and have lots of fun with so many wonderful people, at so many different events.  The last 4-years as Area Reps have flown by, but the friendships and memories we’ve made along the way will last a lifetime.

As I type this morning, we’re traveling south to the gulf coast, as many of you know Pensacola, Florida is our “home base”.   We are looking forward to family time, some down and the upcoming holidays.  In closing, we’d like to wish each of you a very “Happy Thanksgiving” and a blessed holiday season.  We look forward to seeing you in the new year!

Take good care and Safe travels,

Stewart & Tammy
