One of the great freedoms of empty nesting is no longer having to plan your travel schedule around school vacations. And that allowed us to get a jump on the summer travel season and putting our Navion on the highway in mid-May.

This year we made a loop through the Pacific Northwest and regular readers to the GoLife site may have already read about our visits to the Skinnie Winnie Rally in Canyonville, OR and Vancouver, BC.

Our circuit continued until mid-June and took us to great destinations including Sandpoint, ID (Lake Pend Oreille), Polson, MT (Flathead Lake) and Yellowstone. While we were in Polson we had an equally surprising and enchanting visit to the "Miracle of America Museum." You can read about it here, also make a point of watching the three-minute video I produced along with the story.

Leaving Polson we headed south to Bozeman; MT. En route we started keeping count of Winnebago motorhomes. In a three-hour time span we counted twelve different rigs driving in the opposite direction including the new Forza and Travato! Now that might not seem like a big number, but the traffic on the roads was very light and though we saw other brands, certainly they weren't out in force as Winnebago. In many parks we stayed at, we became used to the habit of other Winnebago owners seeking each other out. It's like having an extended family on the road.

And part of that extended family includes this month's Off the Road profile of professional writer, Brad Herzog. Among his many writing assignments and projects, Brad writes a blog for gorving.com. Early in his freelance career, Brad and his wife Amy, sold almost all their possessions, bought a Winnebago and set out on a literary exploration of America. That trip turned into a book "States of Mind" and a fascinating story that goes along with it. Make sure you hop aboard with Brad and read about him by clicking here.

Terry and I are now starting to get ready for the big Winnebago event of the year as we head off to the 2014 Grand National Rally. If you're planning on attending, we'd love to meet you. You'll find us in the Colorado row.
