MA: Quinebagos

Massachusetts Quinebagos Local Chapter by Pat Kane

Special thanks go out to Barbara & Mark Frazier for hosting the campout at Oak Haven Campground in Wales, MA from August 26-28. This was a joint campout with our good friends the CT Nutmeg Winnies. Several folks arrived as early as Wednesday to start the weekend off! Friday, as most of the coaches were arriving, proved to be a challenging weather day. A violent thunderstorm, complete with tornado warnings, came in during the afternoon. Fortunately, all arrived safely. The folks already at the campground hunkered down in the pavilion playing left, right, center or stayed in their coach. As quickly as the storm came, it left and the sun came out.

Undeterred, we gathered for a meal of hot dogs and fixings! More thanks to Barb & Mark for such yummy hot dogs!! Naturally, supper was followed by a roaring fire. On both Saturday and Sunday, we enjoyed a continental breakfast for all provided by our hosts. Saturday folks explored the area, walked up to the small farmer's market, sat around and visited with others, and even enjoyed reading in the warm sun. In addition, both the CT Nutmegs and the MA Quinebagos had club meetings. MA State President, Brian Martel, also presented an update of the New England Rally which is being hosted by Mass June 2-4, 2023 in Greenfield, MA.

Our group of eighteen rigs was invited by the campground to join with them and all the campers in their "All American Burger" dinner. It was an amazing feast as each family brought a side dish or dessert. It was the most side dishes and desserts I have ever seen!! It was a fun time complete with a pie eating contest and entertainment! We managed to waddle from the tables and sit by the fire once again. Who kept score about the number of wood pieces each person got into the fire? Thanks to Herm & Liz Hageman for supplying "designer" wood!! Sunday came and the time to pack up arrived. Always a sad time, but also filled with some excitement, as folks planned to meet at another campout or the New York Rally. There is still time to camp together!

See you on the road!
