MA: Quinebagos

Massachusetts - Quinebagos Local Chapter by Pat Kane

We finally did it! MA WIT had its first campout June 25-28 at Winter Island in Salem, MA. Several folks arrived on Wednesday June 24th. Unfortunately, due to covid-19 we were very limited in the number of sites available. Those in attendance were Frazier, Martel. Murphy, Pierce, Paciulli, Slattery, Iodice and Kane.

It was a different campout from our past ones as we abided by social distancing, mask wearing and no communal food. We were able to enjoy a campfire each night. The weather cooperated and the predicted thunderstorms managed to stay away. It was so nice to catch up with everyone.

The Salem area offers a lot of scenic drives and several folks went off to explore them. Others managed to find some of the local ice cream places to enjoy a treat. Most of the group went to "The Clam Shack" at Salem Willows for lunch one afternoon.

Winter Island is such a nice place to visit. There is a beach where you can swim, sunbathe or hunt for seashells. There is also a wharf and boat ramp. In addition, there are nice walking paths. Folks met frequently to walk around the area.

Although it was not our "usual" campout all had a great time and for many it was their first time camping this season. Everyone is looking forward to doing more camping as a group during the summer.
