MO: Gateway Winnies

The Gateway Winnies last outing was held at Lazy Days Campground in Danville, MO. Twenty-seven eager campers started arriving on Wednesday to kick things off.

Thursday evening several brave individuals traveled through rain, fog, and darkness to Pizza Ranch in Wentzville. Afterwards, a group played a fun game of “Blank Slate” in the clubhouse. Friday the cold, wet weather continued. Some went antiquing and others played cards. Friday afternoon Secretary Janet, Lois Moll and Kathy Batts decorated the tables and made sure things were set up for dinner while President Don, VP Joe and Treasurer John grilled brats and hot dogs.

Many of the members got into the Halloween spirit and wore costumes or fun hats on Friday evening. After dinner we played Missouri Bicentennial Bingo. Saturday morning brought clear skies and warmer temperatures. Don, Joe and John were busy cooking sausage and pancakes – lots of pancakes. Following breakfast and the monthly meeting, the Pogues and Soulons prepared the turkeys for roasting. A few members visited area wineries and businesses while others relaxed and visited with one another. Preparations for the evening potluck also kept us busy. 

The turkey dinner was a wonderful feast with traditional favorites and new dishes to sample. We could not help overindulging! Much to our President’s dismay, no one brought green bean casserole! And while we had a vast array of desserts, there were no pumpkin pies! Thanks to everyone for generously donating nonperishable food items which were collected throughout the weekend. Thanks to Bob & Barb Soulon for delivering our contributions to the Eureka Food Pantry!”
